Your love is not a bargaining chip.
That which you offer and rescind
as you strive to get your hunger met,
is not your love.
That which you hoard,
holding out for the best possible exchange rate
on your precious goods and services,
is not your love.
That which you give and give
until you are depleted,
cursing what you don’t get in return,
is not your love.
You have not once, ever,
been ripped off or swindled for loving.
You have not once, ever,
ended up with less from having loved.
You have only ever been enriched
for having loved.
You have only ever grown
and become a better person,
each time you’ve ever loved.
Though it is possible
that you have not yet ever loved.
